Swimmer Drowns In Todd County Lake

The Todd County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a missing swimmer near the Lake Charlotte beach in Long Prairie on Thursday, July 16.
At 7:08 p.m. Thursday evening, deputies arrived as witnesses were attempting to locate a 21-year-old male in the water near the swimming beach.

Deputies and members of the Long Prairie Fire Dept. conducted a search of the area using watercraft, drone and personnel in the water. After an initial search the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team was called to assist.

At approximately 9:06 p.m., the dive team recovered the victim in approximately 20-feet of water near the swimming beach. The victim was not wearing a life preserver at the time.

The incident is currently under investigation and the name of the victim is being withheld pending family notification.

Also assisting at the scene were the Long Prairie Ambulance, Long Prairie Police Dept. and private citizens with watercraft.
